(Part 1 of 2)

15 July 2017, Saturday, Late Afternoon.

The end of tsuyu in Inaba meant that the townsfolk would no longer have to contend with as much rain, but it also brought an oppressive kind of humidity, making most residents tired and short-tempered; just standing around outside was enough to cause sweating and general discomfort. There was one outdoor place that actually felt comfortable during this time of year, though, and that was up the mountain overlooking town. So when Chie's grandfather had suggested a round of training exercises near the mouth of the Samegawa River, Yousuke and Kanji had jumped on the idea.

7 July 2017, Friday, (Quite) Early Morning.

For the first time in the just-more-than-half-year since she had moved out of her parents' home and into her own apartment, Chie woke to the enticing smells and sounds of breakfast being made: the metallic scrape of a pan against a burner, the crinkle of cellophane, the wafting aroma of sizzling butter, and the smooth, soothing scent of browning bread. She hummed and stretched her arms above her head, but she kept her eyes closed for the time being, preferring instead to loll dreamily among the half-remembered sensations of being in a real home again.

There was a faint, misty dusting of a drizzle against the patio railing as Chie poked her head outside to double-check the weather. She scowled a little around her last mouthful of apple, as she pulled a pair of socks from their rain-protected spinning rack. The rainy season had cooperated with them so far, and though a drizzle was better than a downpour, rain still meant that any outdoor workout would suffer, from wet and slippery ground to generally uncomfortable conditions. 1MC - New look - Yousukeby *bonusparts

Fellow deviant (and total sweetheart)

had expressed interest in some of the "updated" versions I did of characters for my Persona 4 story, "1 More Chance!" (available here [link]).

This one - of Hanamura Yousuke, one half of my main protagonists - is probably the most dramatic visual change to any of the characters...and it's really just a haircut.

Yousuke's change comes later in the story than where I'm currently at here at dA, but this should give you an idea of how much (or how little) I've changed the characters from their original versions.

Expect more of these to come, I suppose, as I clean up some of my original sketches for the sake of your eyes. Kujikawa Rise next, I think....?

EDIT: No changes to the original hair or face...just colored it up a bit more. Yousuke spends a lot of his clothed time in 1MC! in a suit, so I figured it was worth it to give him some clothes, here. (Though I was cursing myself for making it a pinstripe suit...! I think I've been watching too much recent Doctor Who.)

Looking suspiciously respectable there, Hana-chan.

I really like this one. You're right, the hair does do a lot to make him look like an adult, but there's something boyish about that mouth and those eyebrows. Like he's making sure that he looks mature and capable, but any minute now he's going to make a silly remark and get everyone in the area annoyed at him.

Yes, that's exactly what the haircut and suit do for him!

At one point, Chie says the suit makes him "look respectable." And Yousuke (rightfully) replies, "Let's not go overboard."

I really love this new look! So much! Aah, when you told me earlier that you cut his hair, I imagined a very grown-up, serious looking Yousuke - I mean, he still looks obviously adult, but you still managed to keep this certain laid-back and still wildness in his look! >///< at least for me! Ah, he's just so sexy! This hair! I really like the part in the hair, it has something of a reliable grown-up, but something of a creative musician or similar! And those few strands of hair that still sit a bit messy...! It's still so very Yousuke-ish.

Well, the people around him can make him put on a suit, but I had to let Yousuke keep some wildness and creativity.

The phrase that I always think of when I'm describing his hair in prose is "messy and intractable...but sexy."

(And he's got to be at least a little bit so, to grab Chie's attention as he does.) He admittedly gets the most attention because my protagonist is in love with him, but I have to admit that I find him pretty dreamy, too.

I have too much fun with those side parts; I think it's one of the reasons why I enjoy drawing Chie a lot, and why Yukiko is so difficult for me. I just kept scrapping my sketches of poor Yukiko, because the hair just would not turn out right.

Kanji is definitely the most "manly" of the three main guys, even in my sketches, but it's good to know that grown-up Yousuke has some masculinity to him, too, despite the metrosexual-ity of being a Mod.

...Your last line totally makes me giggle every time I read it.

I'm so glad that I can reciprocate a little bit of that inspiration that you always give to me!
